From Law to Nootropic Business: A Journey of Transformation

From Law Firm to Luminous Minds: Mark Curry's SAVVY Success Story

Mark Curry's remarkable journey from UTS Juris Doctor graduate to founder of SAVVY, a thriving functional food and beverage business, is a testament to the power of passion and perseverance. Initially pursuing a Bachelor of Business at UTS and then a Juris Doctor (JD), Mark honed critical skills in business, law, marketing, and negotiation, unknowingly building the foundation for his entrepreneurial success.

While working in law firms, Mark observed colleagues grappling with stress, anxiety, and caffeine dependence. This sparked an idea: to create a healthier solution for sustained energy and cognitive function. He delved into academic research on ancient remedies and modern nootropics like Ashwagandha and Rhodiola Rosea, meticulously formulating a unique brain-boosting powder that offered mental clarity without the usual "caffeine crash." This "brain boost potion" quickly gained popularity, leading to the registration of SAVVY BEVERAGES in late 2016.

Launching SAVVY required navigating unfamiliar territory, from manufacturing to supply chains. However, Mark's legal training proved invaluable for understanding Food Standards Code and crafting compelling business proposals. A pivotal turning point came with joining UTS Startups in 2018. This startup community provided crucial mentorship, expert advice on marketing, accounting, and legal aspects, and a platform for market research. Guided by Murray Hurps, Head of UTS Startups, Mark refined SAVVY's branding and secured partnerships with major firms, including Google offices. Today, SAVVY offers a diverse range of nootropic products in over 700 stores across Australia and New Zealand, making Mark a mentor within the UTS Startups ecosystem and an inspiring figure in the health and wellness sector.
